Manager struck
Two men in a pickup truck hit the manager for Eric Burdon and the Animals as they sought autographs in the parking lot of the Rams Head Tavern Thursday night, city police said.
Around 9:55 p.m. after Burdon and the group had finished their show at the West Street venue, a pickup truck twice struck the group's manager, Marianna Proestou, as she attempted to get Burdon in a van to go to their hotel.
She told police the two men in their 40s came into the parking lot in back of the club seeking Burdon's autograph. Eric Burdon and the Animals had hits in the '60s and '70s, and Burdon also performed with the West Coast band War.
The driver of the pickup then drove into Proestou, pushing her about 4 feet, police said. Then it hit her again as she jumped out of the way.
The truck then followed the van to the Westin Hotel, where the two men demanded an autograph from Burdon.
Burdon, seeking to avoid a physical confrontation, instead gave the two his T-shirt and the men left, police said.
The investigation is continuing.
