RIP Etta James (January 25, 1938 – January 20, 2012)-Get well soon Ralph E. Higdon

She was diagnosed with leukemia in early 2011. The illness became terminal and she died on January 20, 2012, just five days before her 74th birthday, at Riverside Community Hospital in Riverside, California. Her death came three days after that of Johnny Otis, the man who discovered her in the 1950s. Additionally, just 36 days after her death, her sideman Red Holloway also died.

Eric Words : "Life is like a song" and in this life today we say goodbye to one of our great singers -- Etta James. I remember listening to her on jukeboxes in Paris cafes when I was just a kid.
"For here we are in heaven. For you are mine at last." My thoughts are with her family and fans. Rest in peace, Etta.

Dear Ralph:

I don't think we've talked before, but I just read the part about your diagnosis in this thread.  I can't help but wanting to offer my support as well.  I'm an internal medicine physician working near L.A.  I'm happy to hear it is not pancreatic cancer, but renal cell cancer is certainly very serious as well.  Good luck for your upcoming surgery!  I like reading your comments on this site, you seem like such a great fan and warm person in general.

btw you can call me Lily.

My Dear Lily. Thank you for your support. At times like this its wonderful to know there are still people who give a damn. Yeah, Im a huge fan of Eric. He has a way of singing a song that just drips with sincerity, soul, and well, the man just amazes me.I still have to wait to have my pancreas biopsied. But like Eric sings it...I will never give up! Peace and good health to you and yours,Ralph
